THE TAMER'S GUIDE

Being a Tamer is not an easy profession.  There are no short-cuts, 8x8 or cheats to GM this skill.  It takes a lot of hard work and hours of constant taming to reach your goal.  Below you will find a compilation on info I have gathered from personal experience, the guidance of others and the taming sites out there.  I would strongly suggest you take a look at the links below as most are excellent sources of information on Taming and the use/care of pets.

A Few Notes On Taming
* It accounts for 70% of your chance to control a pet (Animal Lore accounts for 30%).
* Taming is a difficulty-based skill, this means you have to tame things of increasing difficulty to keep gaining.
* Once you have tamed a creature, it's taming difficulty is reset to 0.0 for you and you will always be able to retame it on first try. You can not gain skill from an animal you have previously tamed, but you can gain skill from other people's tames.
*If your pet goes wild and you re-tame it, you will notice that it will not obey as well as before.  This is because the pet's orneriness has increased.  To reset this, you will have to release and re-tame your pet until you get a message that you have calmed the beast.
*You can train your pets, but each pet has a maximum skill it can attain.  You can never train a bunny to take on a dragon for example.
*When you reach 80, start moving across servers.  Tame 15-20 mins in one are, then move to another server or facet.  For example, spend 20 mins on Arctic Isle and then 20 mins at the Delucia bulls, etc.
*Make sure you stay well fed.
*If you hit a wall and no longer seem to get any gains, train another skill for a few mins, tame everything you see, die and make sure you are eating.

Of course Animal Taming is not the only skill a tamer needs.  Two others are also Animal Lore (Adds to control and vital for Vetting your pet) and Veterinary.

Animal Lore
This skill goes up passively as you tame as well as while you veterinary heal. While you are doing your taming spam, lore will go up. You must choose different targets to actively train this skill, and seems to go up better if you walk around. You will not receive "burst hour" gains until you have 70.0 lore.

Veterinary
Veterinary seems to be unaffected by the anti-macro code. There is no need to switch targets or walk around with pets to gain, however, it is helpful to do so. While the veterinary skill itself is difficulty based (higher the skill, the more you heal), the rates at which you gain are not difficulty based.  Best way to raise is getting on a boat with two polar bears and just to sail while vetting the bears.  You can apply the bandage as soon as a slice of red appears on the health bar.  It is possible to 8x8 this skill.
